GermanPaleAle

F**k I Forgot To Name This Beer

This beer is somewhat like an IPA but with lower bitterness, and uses German-style pale malts, and incorporates some noble-style hops alongside American-style to deliver a unique, citrusy flavor.

Ingredients

  • 4 lbs Pale Maris Otter malt
  • 4 lbs Pilsner malt
  • 1 lb Vienna malt
  • 0.5 lbs Victory malt
  • 1oz Tettnanger hops
  • 0.5oz Simcoe hops
  • 0.5oz Cascade hops
  • 0.5oz Citra hops
  • London Ale III yeast

Mash

  • Begin with 3 gallons of water and heat to 163 degrees F. Add in grains to reach a temperature of 152 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Mash for 60 minutes.
  • Heat 4 gallons of sparge water, and sparge to a target boil volume of 7 gallons.

Boil

  • Boil the wort. Add 1oz Tettnanger hops as soon as boil begins. Start a timer for 60 minutes. When 10 minutes remains on the timer, add the Simcoe and Cascade hops.

Flameout

  • Cool wort to 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Pitch yeast. Add 0.5oz Citra hops

Fermentation

  • Allow wort to ferment completely; this should take 1-2 weeks. Bottle or keg as preferred.

Enjoy!
