This class will enable the participant to create a unique accordion book using basic mixed media supplies and techniques, and to make an accompanying bookmark from off cuts.

What we will cover:

We will explore the process of making an accordion book using simple mixed media techniques. Participants will become familiar using the basic accordion-fold method. They will use a variety of paint, pens and markers to create their “pages”. They will learn how to turn their off-cuts into an accompanying book mark. There will be casual discussion of tools, supplies, techniques, and how these personalized books could be used; personal journal, art journal, photo journal, travel journal, decorative art book. There will samples of Kat’s accordion books to encourage and inspire participants in their book-making journey.

What to Bring

Craft paint, paint pens, gel pens, alcohol ink markers, Sharpies (assorted sizes)

*** Bring a variety of colors in all of the above, we will talk about color choices and narrow down your preferences. BLACK & WHITE are especially important in all mediums.

*** Walmart & Target are excellent resources for inexpensive craft paints, paint pens & markers.

Aileen’s Tacky Glue (or other tacky/quick dry PVA glue)

Pencil/eraser

Straight edge ruler

Scissors

OPTIONAL (but nice to have):

Apron

Hairdryer or heat tool

Wet wipes

Bone folder

Coordinating ribbon, elastic or fabric strip for book closure (about 36” long)
