Gain familiarity with the laser cutter by designing and zappin' out your own edge-lit acrylic display.
In this workshop, you will:
- Design your own edge-lit display sign using Lightburn, the laser control software we use.
- Use the laser cutter to cut and engrave your display sign in acrylic.
Students who bring their own computer (highly recommended!) will install a trial version of Lightburn they can use at home for free for 30 days. Students without a computer can use one of the PC's here at the space. (Members of Root Access are able to purchase Lightburn for 75% off; ask us for more information.)
This class does not certify you to use the laser on your own.
Prerequisites
None.
What to Bring
A computer (laptop or PC, running Mac OS, Windows, or Linux) capable of installing and running Lightburn. (Optional, but recommended, since we only have two computers available for student use, one one of them drives the laser itself.)
All other materials are provided by Root Access:
- Transparent acrylic for lasering
- LED display base
- Remote control
- Micro-USB power cable
